Mirors, Régence, XVIII

The main mirror is framed by baguettes with Bérain decoration. The mirrors with beveled sides framing the latter are decorated at the corners with spandrels with stylized palm fronds whose scrolls of foliage emerge from the flower buds.

At the top, the graceful arched pediment is framed by two bouquets of flowers. The parecloses take place in an animated frame decorated with foliage motifs, arabesques, rocailles and different varieties of flowers.
This large mirror is particularly representative of the Regency. Its classic lower part is one with an eventful, symmetrical pediment with balanced decoration.
This piece has an original feature because two types of gilding were used. For the protruding parts, the craftsmen of the time opted for a red plate or bowl with tempera gilding. For the more recessed parts, a rare yellow bowl was applied, coupled with a gilding mixture. This work, attesting to the particular attention paid to this mirror, was carried out in order to give a particular relief, depth and quality rendering, perhaps expressly requested by the sponsor.

Regency period, 18th century. Maintenance restorations.
