Cartels, Louis XV, XVIII

Violin cartel and console Boulle marquetry: tortoise shell, abundant and fine inlays of brass, natural bronzes.

The finely crafted dial is composed of enamelled cartridges with Roman and Arabic numerals.

At the top of the cartel a Chinese with an umbrella.

On the front, a female allegorical figure holds a book "The truth alone is enough".

The console also has abundant brass inlays and chimeras or dragons at both angles, reminiscent of the Asian theme in vogue in the eighteenth century.

The mechanism whose suspension has been changed has been revised by our watchmaker and is in perfect working order.

Stamped "ANT FOVLLET" and punches "JME" on the cartel and console.

Antoine Foullet received Master cabinetmaker in 1749. Specialized in the manufacture of "crates" for cartels in the Faubourg Saint-Antoine, he has a solid reputation and is among the best craftsmen alongside André Charles Boulle, Balthazar Lieutaud. ..

After the auction of a cartel Vernis Martin made by Antoine Foullet by Sotheby's for the sum of € 48,750 in 2011, the expert said:

"At the death of Antoine Foullet in 1775, the inventory after death in his workshop in the Faubourg Saint-Antoine mentioned many clock boxes which the cabinetmaker seemed to have made a specialty.

Today, two other cartels decorated with gilded bronze on the theme of the fable The Fox and the Stork and stamped by Antoine Foullet are known: one in varnish martin went on sale in Geneva at Antiquorum, April 22, 1995 , lot 161, and the other in tortoise marquetry, horn and mother-of-pearl, is kept at the International Watchmaking Museum of La Chaux-de-Fonds. Both include a movement signed Jaquet-Droz. "
